Today you are four. And I’m beyond grateful for another year being your mama. I picked this silly picture because the year of three was beautiful and hard in so many ways — and really, a lot of fun. Beautiful to see you grow into your role as big brother. The transition seemed almost too natural, as though you’d just been waiting for the right little brother to love and you’d finally found him in your “Sawyer-buddy”. It’s been my absolute favorite transition into maturity to witness in you. Beautiful to see you gently gather your courage to try new things. You are a watcher, cautious to enter, and always taking your time to warm up — it’s your way to experience life and I’m becoming better at recognizing this in you and finding ways to first acknowledge, and then follow your lead. We’ve gotten better at this dance together. Beautiful to see your curiosity bloom. You’ve been learning to read simply by asking questions and spending time on your own trying to figure it out (and you’re already cracking the code!). Your new favorite game is “plus and minus” and you love puzzles and anything you can build. Your curiosity fuels your incessant “why?” but the result is (often) incredible conversations about the way the world works and the part we play in it. I simply love every part of you, miss you when we are apart, and find excuses to convince you to snuggle with me when we are together. I am beyond proud of you and thrilled God chose me (and sustains me) to be your mama. Happy 4th birthday, #beckettjamesallen! Glad I got to spend it with you in Bali of all places, and riding elephants no less. I guess we will have to have your 5th birthday on the moon or something else just as spectacular 😉

A very different kind of Christmas, but celebratory nonetheless. Celebrating the birth of this sweet boy and his first Christmas. And even more importantly, the birth of that baby boy so many years ago that made way for the hope we can feel in this season and the joy of the now and the even greater joy of the not yet. #jeasusisthereason #foxallenasianadventure2016 #christmasinbali #sawyerlukeallen

After a long day of travel (with several delays), we made it to Bali. These boys are total traveling troopers. Being on the plane a lot longer than expected, I admittedly was anxious. But they were angels and I’ve realized that flying is all part of the grand adventure for them – as opposed to just a means to an end. Seeing the world through their eyes on this trip has been enlightening and thrilling. Hugs all around for patient kiddos! #foxallenasianadventure2016 #thetwobrothersallen

This little dude is hitting his stride today. He’s figure out how to ask what he needs (and we’ve become better at interpreting) and learning how to sleep/eat/be on the go. He’s all smiles today and not a second too late — Vietnamese women love babies as we have found out in the last 24 hours. We all love you, #sawyerlukeallen
